Build confidence before you ride with us
If you are thinking about booking an SR75 Suzuki Off Road Experience, a little preparation can make your first session feel calmer and more enjoyable. Our days are designed for riders who are completely new to off-road riding as well as those wanting to sharpen existing skills, all in a relaxed, friendly and professional environment with expert coaching and structured drills.
The key is to keep practice simple, safe and low-pressure. Find a flat, open area where riding is permitted, wear proper protective kit and focus on control rather than speed. Here are five skills you can practise before your training day.
1) Slow speed balance and clutch control
Off-road riding becomes much easier when you can balance at walking pace. Practise riding as slowly as possible using gentle clutch slip and steady throttle. Aim for smoothness: no snatching, no sudden surges. Try adding large figure-of-eights, keeping your head up and looking where you want to go.
2) Neutral standing position
Standing is a foundation skill for control on uneven ground. Practise standing on the pegs with soft knees, hips slightly back and elbows up. Keep your grip light and let the bike move beneath you. Start on smooth ground, then repeat over small bumps at low speed to learn how your legs absorb movement.
3) Smooth braking, front and rear
Good braking technique builds confidence quickly. In a straight line, practise progressive braking: squeeze the front brake smoothly and add rear brake for stability. Focus on keeping the bike upright, weighting the pegs and stopping predictably. Increase your braking force gradually as you become consistent.
4) Slow turns and looking through the corner
Many riders struggle in tight turns simply because they look down. Set out two markers and practise turning around them at low speed. Turn your head early and keep your eyes up, then let the bike follow. If you want an extra challenge, practise the same turn seated and standing so you start to understand how body position changes steering feel.
5) Controlled starts and stops on uneven ground
Off-road terrain is rarely perfectly flat. Practise smooth pull-aways and tidy stops on slightly uneven surfaces. The goal is to stay relaxed and balanced: steady throttle, controlled clutch and a clean stop without wobbling. This translates directly into better control when conditions change.
How this helps on your SR75 day
Our experience days are structured to provide maximum riding time with clear demonstrations, practical drills and constructive feedback in small groups so you get personal attention. If you arrive already comfortable with the basics above, you will be ready to focus on technique and progression rather than just settling in.
